Steel plant move into renewables shows opportunity to create lasting jobs

Responding to the news that the new owners of closed down steel plants at Dalzell and Clydebridge are to recruit over 100 workers to manufacture towers for wind turbines, Patrick Harvie, Economy spokesperson for the Scottish Greens and MSP for Glasgow, said:

"This announcement is welcome news for the Lanarkshire economy which has been through a turbulent time. The move by the new owners to manufacture for renewables shows the opportunity Scotland has to create lasting jobs.

“Greens have long argued that by embracing the transition to a low carbon economy we can provide economic security for communities. I hope Liberty closely involve the workforce in the development of the business and I urge the Scottish Government to do all it can to support further opportunities for renewables in the face of funding cuts from the UK Government.”
